New Branding

New year, new sponsor, new look! In 2024, Seattle-based Mercurys Coffee came on board the URG race team and I worked with the owner to get the look he wanted for his brand. I used this original overhead photo from 2023 of our blue and chartreuse boat as the base image for this project.

Initially, we tried some 3D model images from a game. The sponsor, new to boat racing, needed visuals to understand how his brand would look on the finished boat. Boat dimensions in the game image did not translate to life-size dimensions, so back to 2D photos for comping.

First, I changed the chartreuse to white. Next, I took the saturation out of the  blue and red. Then, I painted the deck white and brightened the engine cover. 

I then painted out the last of the 2023 sponsor logos, and changed the muddy Ohio River to a visually appealing river water blue.

Now I opened the image in Illustrator and transferred design shapes from the 3D image and added the sponsor's brand colors. Finally, I added the Miss Mercurys Coffee logos to complete the final design. (This whole process was duplicated for a side image).

Once the sponsor approved the design, I  completed the final edits in Photoshop and expanded the background for use in the  press release, hero card, website and social media.
